While there are mixed preferences on whether the brutes should be hairless or not, I believe the main issue many fans have is that their facial structure seems rather flatter than usual (like a human), as opposed to the traditional long snout/gorilla-looking shape. Also the seemingly endless close-up of the Brute at ... Halo: Reach had the best armours. Their armour didn't fully break off when you shot them. But their faces looked nothing like the Brutes of Halo 2/3. Plus they were a little too weak for my liking.
