Quite frankly, the puzzle never gives me the option to start. I make my way to Crook's Hollow, I place my Scarab Statue to open the wall, and the pillar's are blank. The alter gives no way to press the button to begin the trial. I have loaded and reloaded and hunted 3 times in hopes of being able to complete this quest but alas, I am unable to.

The key locations are pretty random to map down each and every one, and even then it would just be a picture of an island covered in X's. Most you can do is dig 1 piece then pray it has the X on the first piece. There's even an achievement for it! As long as you have the piece with the X you can move on to digging up the key.That means that as long as you verify the orientation of your chains/keys it should only take 4 guesses without any clues (by just guessing each of the 4 sides of pillar 4), 2 guesses with 1 clue (as you've detailed here), but can take 2 guesses with 2 clues since Lock and Key can be Pillar 2 or 3.The chain statue is the easiest to find.
